There is only reason I’m writing
this statement is to set the record
straight from on the facts from the
inside: …..when you finishing
reading you be the judge.
It is a well know fact that
Mindgames had a positive swab from
the Vic state titles. Let me tell
you how this unfolded.
Mindgames like every horse that
competed at Sydney Royal 2008 had to
be vaccinated with two EI
vaccinations to allow him to travel
to NSW and compete. He was one of
the many horse that had a reaction
to the vaccination.
The first sign that there was a
problem, I contacted my vet who is a
very well known racing vet based in
Flemington. My reason for using this
particular vet is that I believe
that he is one of the best Equine
vets around. As a professional, I
owe it to both my horses and my
clients to making sure my horses
health comes first. Once treated, it
is then my obligation that all my
competition horses should return a
negative test in the swabbing stall.
I believe that my horses are swabbed
more than any other competitor due
to the amount of horses that I show
in a year. I expect to be swabbed at
every show I attend with any one of
the horses and generally that is the
case.
My vet is closely involved in Racing
where hundreds of horses are swabbed
daily to compete, I was confident
that when I asked him for the swab
times, that information and advice
would be accurate. My vet obtained
more information from Racing
Victoria, then told me that the
tablets he had prescribed had no
swab time, no withholding time.
Leading up to the State titles in
October, Mindgames was again showing
allergic reactions. The vet was
called again and his opinion was
that it one of the remaining effects
of the EI injections. Lists change
all the time on what you can or can
not treat a horse with so the
information regarding whether this
was a permitted drug was checked
again. The drug is not a banned
substance in Racing. It is not a
sedative, steroid, upper or downer.
It is to assist with an allergic
reaction and is much the same as you
or I taking and over the counter
pill for a runny nose from
hay-fever.
I had always believed, as do most
people and my vet, that as the
testing is conducted in a Racing
laboratory, that the lists of
allowed substances is exactly the
same as for FEI competition. You ask
the question anywhere and you are
told that if it is allowed in Racing
it is allowed in Show Horses. Let me
tell you, this is NOT correct.
