You
know that feeling you get when you walk up the lane
....laden down with buckets of feed and all those sweet
faces start screaming at you for food with the pounding
of hooves getting louder as the beasts gallop full tilt
towards you to get there dinner!!!
well on the 16th June 2008 I didn’t get three
sets....only two
My
mare Libby who is very food minded was nowhere to be
seen. I looked around and saw Libby standing in the
middle of the paddock and my heart sank instantly I
could feel my pulse in my ears as I ran to her. I just
knew something was wrong. As I got closer I could see
the damage she had done to herself on the plain wire
fence. My heart dropped, the damage was horrific, the
vet was called and I returned and waited with her till
he arrived.
The
leg was a mess with the Extensor Tendon
severed completely, total de-gloving from hock to
fetlock and possible bone damage as well as the leg been
packed with dirt and grass. One look at her and the
decision was made to have her PTS until my vet saw how
she was eating and enjoying a good scratch on the
wither. The vet then decided to clean the leg and remove
any dead flesh. Libby was given antibiotics, penicillin
and pain killers. We then treated it with solosite and
silvazine (both are used to treat burns on people) and
bandaged. |
