The property was purchased in 1985 and building began. We started off just buying a couple of ponies for the girls. We have four daughters all riders of varying degrees – the first and third daughters liked the show world – the second one was keen to be a good novelty rider (won the last under 17 Flag and Barrel to be held at Barastoc) until a sad accident put an end to that idea. She still rides occasionally. The youngest is not really interested but went through pony club with all her sisters. After a few years and a few ponies that took the girls on some hair raising rides we decided to experiment with breeding – we were looking to breed quality ponies with personalities to match - we were also keen on buckskins at the time so when I saw a Welsh B Buckskin colt advertised (rising 2) went for a look – fell in love and the rest is history – he was shown with great success (Champion at Melbourne Royal in the first few months that we had him) he has given us some wonderful ponies and we have had a great time with him. I then became interested in Aussie ponies and Pintos. After a couple of tries we finally bred our own Pinto colt. He was a very successful little pony (11.3) winning not only in the Pinto ring but also in the Open classes, finally the Open Saddle Stallion for his height at Barastoc before he went to America. He also bred some fantastic ponies for us before I had a moment of madness and sold him overseas. I also fell in love with the beauty of the Riding Ponies so we purchased a lovely little Riding Pony Stallion, Kirkwood Woodruff – unfortunately he had a leg injury so we were unable to show him but he produced quality ponies with fabulous temperaments for us. Alix bought a lovely Black Hack and competed in the Garryowen before selling him to travel overseas – she is still there (unfortunately) after 3 years. We are now getting into leading rein and mini turnouts with my granddaughter Jordan and having a lot of fun together. |
