Is your electric tape touching any non-insulated surface anywhere? Do you have a suitable earth rod in place? |

Nope the box is supposed to click, that means it is working. That is the pulse going out the line. Sorry can't help you as more info needed. There are many ways to sey up an electric fence. |

I cant help but I wish there was someone you could get out to 'service' electric fences...Im too busy to do it myself and they seem to be something that needs constant monitoring....maybe a good business op for someone with knowledge in that area? |

All was set up apart from the box when we bought the palce (apart from the tape yard i am making), the earth rod is in place. Cant see any tape touching something it shouldnt be. Good to know the box is ment to click! |

Get an electric fence tester. We have one. Put the earth wire in the ground then rest this device on the line to see if its live. Pretty cheap I think |

It will be earthing somewhere. If its not obvious start checking for cracked insulators or wait until dark and you should be able to see a small blue flash where its earthing. I'm on fencing duty this weekend too |

OK, click is good. current runs from the box, through the tape- and the ground. when an animal or a person touches the tape and the ground simultaneously, they get zapped when they complete the circuit. Issues could be: >earth from unit isn't in the ground well enough, or is to dry. >There is a short circuit (the tape is touching a conductor) somewhere along it's length. > A wire is loos/broken/disconnected somewhere along the length > An insulator is shorting out alowing a short circuit >Unit is dead >unit is not powerful enough for the length of fence > Kids have been using the fence to attempt to start fires and zap each other and have broken something. > Dog has peed on hot tape and broken everything when he took off. |

Got a tester, thats how i know part works part dont. Hahah Kleener last 2 i know havent happened. The unit is a 5k unit, we are on 6 acres and not the whole 6 acres is electric. DG may have to wait till dark cause i cant see any reason it isnt going. |

Hmm.. I would be going towards not powerful enough.. however, with your tester, go to where the fence is working. then to where the fence isn't working.. the problem is between those points. work back along the fence until you find the point where working becomes not working.. your issue will be there |

I don't need a tester I take my trusty plastic handled fence pliers, and a piece of wire and then touch this wire to an electrified and an earthed wire, if it zaps then it is working |

The wires in the tape could be broken and hard to pick, the exact spot without careful examination |

It is not a dead short which is good.....means you should hear it clicking and see it sparking in the dark! Good luck - can be frustrating! |

If you have more than one wire and in yards you might reach your limit without going all the way around your property. You can get a tester that will tell you where the short is. I find the tape useless. You can go along the tape with the tester. It goes in at 5000 volts and then as you go along it drops down to being useless without an insulator in between and that is brand new tape first time used. Useless. I use plain wire. Oooh Sal1 what is the bet I am not close enough? How much are you going to pay for me to fix it for you? |

If your ground is dry and non conductive it could be an earthing problem. In that case you may need to make one of the non hot wires the earth. Trouble is then horse has to touch live and earth wire simultaneously. Om with Suzie q. Tape not much cop, the fine wires get broken too easily. Go wire every time. |

LOL Typical I am in Queensland. With wire you can also drop it down to run the tractor over it. With tape you have to remove it so the tractor doesn't go over it, because it wont' work afterwards. |
