Show and Working Hunter Enthusiasts Unite!

You can soon expect an explosion of show hunter classes at shows across Victoria and more recognition for the wonderful show and working hunter horses and ponies.

Or at least that’s what the newly formed Show and Working Hunter Association of Victoria hope to achieve.

Formed in April 2008, the Show and Working Hunter Association of Victoria, is made up of a group of very enthusiastic people who are involved in showing show and working hunters. Even though the show hunter concept has been in Australia for around a decade now, thanks to Fran Clelland who first introduced the idea to Australian showies, showing show and working hunters is still comparatively young here as opposed to in the UK.

Show hunters still have a way to go before they will be on an equal footing with the open hacks here, but given their growing popularity and the enthusiasm of this newly formed association out to promote them, the sky’s the limit.

“To Promote Show and Working Hunters and to develop the show and working hunter movement through competition and education.” That is the mission statement for the association, and as it suggests, it means that the group will be involved in the running of shows, seminars and other promotional activities.

To kick the season off, the Show and Working Hunter Association of Victoria is involved in assisting the Corio Moorabool Pony Club with running extensive show and working hunter rings at their pre royal show held on Saturday the 23rd of August at Elcho Park in Lara. There are garlands and rugs up for grabs for the supreme leds and riddens and rosettes to 4th place in all other show and working hunter classes.
