The Australian Sports Pony is relatively new registry which began in 2004,  Margie Kuiper the federal registrar and main force behind this organisation  saw the need in developing and registering ponies we have here in Australia, to set a breeding guideline, to be on par with the overseas development of a ‘true sports’ pony.  Many pony breeds have been used to develop the German Riding Pony, today these ponies reflect everything that one finds desirable and if we want to catch up with the rest of the world it  will be through the forward thinking of the Australian Sports Pony registry that has now been established that this will happen.

Pony riders, trainers and breeders from around Australia need to cultivate a "type" of pony in this country which meets the criteria of being 14.2hh or under, that demonstrates outstanding temperament suitable for a child rider and is capable of developing, through correct training, the ability to satisfy the high standard necessary for a top performance pony in dressage, showjumping, eventing and combined training..

The Australian Sports Pony Challenge held at Werribee Park was nothing short of a success, like the previous day the weather stayed fine.  From dressage to the showjumping many breeds and crossbreds showed their versatility in performing under the watchful eyes of judges; Jenny Oglesby, Jan Mason, Jarie Gahan, Rosemary Williams, Maria Millikan, Cathy McAdie, Judy Quinn and Peggy Mills, a huge thankyou goes to these wonderful people that gave their time and expertises, and of course an event would not be an event without all the workers; Gary Hartigan, Chris Hartigan, Moody & Moody Junior, Pat McLeod, Struth, Tina Fielding, Sharon Economedes, Yvonne Hardingham, Dianna Brown, Fiona Fowler, Fran Cleland, Graeme Barker,  Kaye Clarke,  Margaret Anderson, Robyn …her two children Aria & Bowan and of course Margie Kuiper the event organiser and chief on the day.

As a competitor I think I could safely say on behalf of everyone that attended ‘thank you’ for making this day work so well and giving us all the opportunity to enjoy a day out and a big thankyou to all the sponsors that are listed within these reports! they provided some great prizes as trophies as well as support to running this event.
