What a perfect day... super weather, a show that ran like clockwork, a band of workers that couldn't do any more if they tried. The 1st day of judging got under way of the Barastoc SA Horse of the Year and as normal it is a pleasure to attend this show with the committee a dream to work with.

Judges this year were Sally Watkins, Lorelie Payne, Raymond Butler all respected with the show world, they kept the day flowing and a consistency to the placing's. The rider classes were well supported especially the junior riders and as normal the standard of showmanship here is SA is top level - of course they are a friendly little bunch which is lovely to see.

Newcomer

The Rags for Nags 12.2hh and under kicked of the newcomer events, it was Kolbeach Memoir owned and ridden by Ashlee Anderson that stole the show in this event with the delightful little bay by Camargue Tribute Imp  winning the sash and runner-up was Corumbene Treasure owned by Margaret Fricker. The Sanlirra Large Pony was a tough class, perhaps a few ponies could have done well to slow down and come more from behind, but taking nothing away from the winners it was a Sanlirra affair with Sanlirra Stagelight and Kelli Probert taking the broad sash with runner-up Sanlirra Just Gossip ridden superbly by Margot Haynes and owned by Sue Bulling.

Next up the Willowcroft Galloway, what a great class, there was many beauties within this class and been a newcomer class this is always one to watch for SA's up and coming superstars. There was quite a few that at different moments sung out 'pick me' on the circle  but fell apart with the consistency in their workout. The winner gave a polished and fluid workout, the lovely little galloway KB Marine again sired by Camargue Tribute Imp he is owned by Sabrina Jaescnke and was ridden by Margot Haynes runner-up was Willowcroft Night Music owned and ridden by Teena Dunn.
