If you were asked for one word to describe the Barastoc Horse of the Year show it would be ..awesome! driving into the Equestrian Centre is like stepping into a different time zone, horses, floats, tents, people, plenty of kids and something going on in every corner of our super equestrian centre. If today was any indication to how this show was going to be, its going to be a very long 3days with plenty of events to fill anyone's passion. How this show has grown over the years, all made possible by the great sponsors and a hard working committee, Werribee Park takes a different atmosphere that would put many royals to shame once the Barastoc Horse of the Year show hits town.

Equestrian Catering and Goldfields Potatoes Working Hunter Classes: Working Hunter Small Pony a great class, with the young riders giving all to show off the best that their ponies had to offer. This years Champion was Glynyarra Park Coquette ridden superbly by Juliette Haddow runner-up was Lykanarro Rockafella Patrick Moloney. The working Hunter 12.2-14hh was won by Mondiso Park Twinkle owned by Stuart Ryan and ridden by Nikita Connell, with runner-up going Olivia Joel and her pony Merrindale Fantasy. The Hunter Galloway was Kapeta Kip ridden by Kate Sherwood, Jenny Douglas and her home bred Bellarny Park Criss Cross was the runner-up a bold little bay that strikes a handsome picture within the show ring. The Working Hunter Hack was a super class a total of 47 presented to the judge. The winner was Mingara Rock n’ roll owned by Amy Cleland and runner-up was Thomas ridden by Wendy Buller.

While the Hunters were working inside the Joseph Lyddy Rider Events were well under way over on the main arena under the eyes of judges Scott Adams and Amanda Peters both from NSW. Rider 8-12 was won by Courtney Bird,
judged by  Mrs Amanda Peters finalists were Courtney Bird, Lillian McEvoy, Abbey Riddell, Maddison Zammitt, Laura Heffer, Thomas J Madigan, Anna Boura, Ashleigh Glascott, Caitlin Smith and Bethany Arnold.

Rider 12-15years was won by Stephanie Barrington judged by Scott Adams, finalists were Rose McEvoy, Serena Brillanti, Sophie Coleman, Melody Linehan, Kirsty Daniels, Emma Marie, Courtney Remington, Miss Simone Pearce and Laini Seddon.

Rider 15-18years was won by Laura Thomas judged by Scott Adams, finalists E Rodgers, Jacindameg Overy, Megan Cheeseman, Brianna Poustie, Brittany Morris, Alexandra Berwick, Rachel Keskinen, Shakira Pascale and Bonnie Chivers. Laura was also the overall winner of the Junior Showmanship event that made is début this year.

Rider 18-30 years was won by Rebecca Groen judged by  Mrs Amanda Peters, finalists Miss Scarlett Luscombe, Jacqui Librio, Laura Dunk, Kate Russell, Emma Gooding, Sarah OÇonnor, Becky Allen, Jade Gilbert and Kristy Revell. Rider 30 years and over was Shelley Penny judged by Mrs Amanda Peters and Scott Adams, finalists were Fiona Burnell, Bronwyn Cartner, Kerryn Golder, Tammy Graham, Sara Love, Bettina Moonen, S M Engel and Rebecca Todd.

Back over to the indoors and it was time for our Mal Byrne Saddlery Show Hunters to shine and these classes have just bloomed over the years not just in size but in overall quality, even though having said that there was a few equines that were questionable to the Show Hunter type but that's up to the judges within Australia to make sure these classes are judged correctly and the 'type' is kept true. Now when you talk 'type' Cherrytree Vagabond is everything a showhunter should be, the delightful gelding won the Showhunter 12-13hh of the Year ridden by child under 16yrs, his rider was Penny Smith, now this little bay had a lot to live up to, you see his mum had won this event 2 times ...Buena Vista Vanessa who could forget her and her son is every bit his mothers boy and the runner-up was Barina Endeavour Laura Heffer.

Morningside Daybreak a terrific bay pony owned by Sophie Scott and ridden by Thomas Madigan was the Showhunter 13-14hh rider under 18years, with runner-up a super APSB pony Bimbadeen Stirling ridden by the delightful Aaron Wood. 12 hands and under, ridden by a child 12 years and under winner was Shenandoah Angellic Heights ridden by Lisa Howe and runner-up Dalgangle Hunterway ridden by Erika Grant.Castileon Park Second Edition was the winner of the Showhunter 13-14 ridden by an adult which was sponsored by Kylee from Cedar Lodge ..check them out at the trade centre.

The Galloway Champion was  Forte ridden by Bonnie Chivers runner-up Langtree Class Act Greg Mickan, 15-16 Hack winner was Champion Romeo’s Gift Mrs Fiona Burnell runner-up Time Gallery Laura Thomas and the last class was the over 16hh Hack which was won by SP Havana Shelley Penny runner-up Jacky Winter Becky Allen.
