from the Ring Master....

The 37th Barastoc Horse of the Year show has to go down as one of the happiest. The weather was tremendous to us, and although you might get tired of hearing it - it's NEVER rained on that weekend in 37years.

The classes were simply enormous, and everyone was pleased to see some new faces at the top of the lines in many of the major classes.  Although all the classes are big, we work very hard to ensure that everyone gets a fair chance to be seen, and hopefully we achieved that.

Congratulations to the winners, thankyou SO much to the sponsors, to our tireless stewards and to you, the competitors for making it one of the best ever.

What might seem weird to you all, is that we are now planning three years ahead. 2009 will be the show's Ruby Anniversary, and we will need the time to plan to make it just so very special that it will go down in history.  Right from the wind up meeting of the 2006 show, we will be planning ahead, so whatever you do, go search for the special horse that will have you standing at the front of the line in three years.

Our International Challenge, sponsored for the first time this year by Decron Hoof Care Kit was hugely successful. One could not imagine that Arena Two could have been so transformed, and it was once again a sell-out. If you get the chance to buy a DVD of the evening, do so, it's very well worth a look. Thankyou to Decron, we hope you enjoy your stay with us, we truly value your support.

Competitors who placed in the Top Ten in the Barastoc Section, or were champion or reserve in Newcomers and owner rider may get the chance to ride in the Decron Hoof Care Kit International challenge in 2007. We like to "value add" to those who enter Barastoc. The champion and reserve champions in the show hunter classes also qualify to compete under their own English judge. Our two English judges were also genuinely impressed with the size, scope and efficiency of the event.

The new Showmanship section was very much enjoyed by the competitors, although a few of the mums were a bit fragile prior to the running of it. Yes, it WAS a busy day, but all sections were aware of this and flexible. It was terrific to see 30 youngsters all lined up and smiling and covered in sashes at the presentation

We intend to at least have a Trans Tasman next year, and will put our hand up to run the World Titles after South Africa. It would be great to have it along with the Ruby Anniversary Show.

The show hunters continue to be hugely supported and the working hunter classes were also very big.

The HRCAV section attracted 100 riders which for them is VERY big, and there were 239 youngsters in the schools showjumping.

Yes, it was a huge show, but a very happy one, the atmosphere could not have been bettered.

Thankyou once again, to everyone who supported us, you were the people who made it a truly magic weekend.
