Sunday Barastoc

Okay about now I will fess up to exhausted and somewhat in pain due to been clobbered by junior right on the ankle, couple that with what has been a huge [bloody huge] 3 days already and today its it the Barastoc Horse of the Year, the event that has stood the test of time for the last 39 years, every single person that has shown has aspired too one day been part of, today its now or never for some, the last 5 months while been stuck at home some horses have been primed for this and today they shine, so huge was the interest in this years event the hack classes where split into 2 section , I challenge you go to any other state you will not find a such numbers in a hack ring, Victoria is totally 'the hack king state'. But for those not here, the numbers in the other divisions were nothing short of 'wow if I make the top 10 I would be honoured' strong classes is putting it mildly, if they are predicting the 40th anniversary show to be bigger perhaps they better look at a extra 2days!

This is the show of today and the future... Barastoc and these are the 2008 winners:-

Flirting, Consequence, Mirinda Eyeliner, Kolbeach Promise, Silkwood Angel Wings and Bojinda  Little  Kimbo

The judges for today are a fine line up stemming from breeders of quality horse flesh thru to producers of show equines to national level:- Ms A Coxon, Vic, Mr F Thompson, Qld, Ms K Durante, Qld, Mrs J Daffy, Vic, Mr J Harforth, UK and Mr W Warke.

Just one of the highlights was little Angel Wings, 2006 winner, 2007 runner up, and last night the International Pony of the Year plus throw in the First Ridden and then today again she was in the winners circle taking this years small pony sash home, this ever ready to please ....sweetest mare you will ever find is a true legend, owned by the McMahon & McCormick Families of Leanda Stud she has had more championships and profile wins across Australia then [I may think] any other equine star in the ring today. With Sarah McMahons little girl growing up and getting to the age of riding, we should hope to see this mare for a few more years to come.

Kolbeach Stud bred stock also had a wonderful show, as more of them become of riding age, so we are seeing the numbers in the top 10's at events, Kolbeach Promise took her winning style to this year to take the sash. While the breath taking mare Consequence all the way from Tasmania gave the Vic's a run for their money in the International last night taking home the title and swag of prizes, she stepped out today and sealed the deal with a super win in the Hack of the Year Div II, my other favorite horse who I have admired since the first time I saw him Flirting was not about to let anyone take him out of the winners place, and was awarded the Hack of the Year Div I.

and so.... as fast as the grounds filled up, the faster they emptied - no less than hour and half latter all that remains is my own plus a few stragglers, high on the agenda for 99% was a good long hot shower plus bed! This has been a terrific show on a number of fronts, mainly our release from EI restrictions, and for its sheer size, traders reported record sales for the 4 days which is great for them, as the ones to suffer from EI have been all us folk that actually have built our business around the show world - please we ask you support those that have sponsored this show throughout the year of your horse shopping needs and when you browse thru your program support those that advertised within - all of this helps ensure the ongoing growth of the event.
