This year the SA HOY had huge entries, with a panel of experienced, talented horsemen and horsewoman as judges and a committee that operates with decision and professional  the weekend was looking real good, even the weather was looking more promising than our 40+ of last weekend.

Saturday events ran a touch behind time, unusual for the SA' group but after lunch with the tempo up the event picked up pace and we got to see some wonderful newcomers hit the arena. The Galloway classes as per the normal were super, really good types ...without getting into hot water - not the over sized riding ponies but true galloways [even if they may have RP breeding the galloway type is starting to have its own identity], from the prelim circle work I happily picked about 7 that I wouldn't mind standing in my stables, just as SA is renowned for its riders, and pony breeding - the breeders are getting it 'oh so right' with the galloway breeding as well.

First up was the rider classes, the judges for the day were Lisa Cleary, Louise Doyle and Francene Treneman, these 3 ladies would latter on judge the Newcomers as well so they had a good days work ahead of them. First class for the day was the little tots, this delightful talented age group was so cute to watch, as per the normal SA seems to have the happy knack of turning out some talent from very early ages. The EFA SA Show Horse Committee Rider under 9 years winner was Jessica Dunn runner-up Hannah Woollatt then in order of top five placing; Shauna Chaplin, Breanna Forster and Charles Mumford. EFA SA Show Horse Committee SA Champion rider of the year under 14 years was Tess Hughes who put on a super performance, with Dani Jolly-Blacket hot on her heels as the runner-up with placing in order of sashing’s Jaimie Stichel Ashlee Anderson Nicholas Lindquist.

SA Champion Junior Rider of the Year, 14 years and under 18 years Adelaide Lord Mayors Perpetual Trophy was Shannen Graham who won this award in 2005, 2006 a top record making this 3rd time in a row, Angela Donaldson was the ruuner up with Caitlin Graham 3rd, Camille Rose4th and sister Felicity Rose 5th. Angel Face SA Champion Senior Rider of the Year, 18 years and over, from the sidelines this could have easily gone either way between the eventual winner Margot Haynes and runner up Charlotte Thomson who gave the most superb performance, the judge Lisa Cleary commented she was looking for a soft …yet effective rider and this was the hardest class of the day to judge with top riders competiting. Making up the top 5 in order was Sam Kennedy, Edwina Harrison and Angela Forster.

While the newcomer clases were started after lunch so to was the Owner/rider classes, with David Puttock and Christine Comley got to working through these popular classes with an excellent number of exhibits these classes have been well received all over Australia now.
