The SA Show Horse Council Inc took a bold step and it paid off, introducing to for the first time to SA the Rising Star show, a fantastic opportunity for people to get their young stock and newcomers out within quality fields of horses under expert judges eyes. Judges Kerry Patchett (NSW) & Carolyn Lye (NSW) were flown in for the honours, with local judge Mandy Beckel who did a wonderful job in the Open ring which ran for the day offering owners a chance for qualies for their seasoned stock.

The judging selection was unique in itself, the committee sourced the names of all judges who had previously judged at Royals, HOY once a extensive list was made, all names were put into a hat and the drawing was done at a open members meeting by the competitors themselves ...couldn't get any fairer way than that!

The committee seemed to get everything right for this shows intro into SA, held at the lovely grounds at Mt Pleasant, the arena was soft under foot [a welcome relief from the heavy going down here in Victoria] judges were fantastic and considering all of us were finding the extreme heat an effort to deal with, the day was just lovely. As per the normal with shows in SA food, drinks, and hospitality to all is 100% and even to me receiving 3 lovely bottles of wine from the committee for coming along ...very nice gesture of thanks from them.

Kerry Patchett [pictured left with one of her winners] had the task of judging the Rising Star Newcomers and Novice on the day, with plenty of new stars, some making their début into showing, some making it a nice pre-show to the SA HOY to be judged this weekend. With the temperature on target around the 40+ the judge was excellent in her preciseness and efficiency in getting through the huge schedule well on time with consideration to the horses and riders.

Winners of their respected Newcomer Show Hunter Championships in order of heights were Rivington Enchantress & Isabelle Barker, Wynara Emblem & Lesley Griggs, Wynara Touch of Bronze & Dani Jolly-Blacket and Chef en Bleu & Mandy Biller. Talking with the judge after the event is was so refreshing to see competitors were treated to someone that actually knew what a show hunter should be, and Wynara Stud should be very proud of two home bred winners in the line up here, the gelding owned by Lesley Griggs is a very neat package but it was their own Wynara Touch of Bronze who stepped forward to receive the garland and the title of the Supreme Champion Led Newcomer Show Hunter.

Newcomer Show Champions led, Tundra Park Distinction & Brooke Graham, Springwood Fairy Prince & Edwina Harrison, Wingana Stage Whisperer & Daniella Madalinski and Noire Jacque & Jenny Bailey. Supreme Champion Led Newcomer Show Hack Wingana Stage Whisperer owned by Helen Pedic but after today he was going to his new home with Daniella Madalinski.
