I am not 100% sure on this, but right about now I am blissfully exhausted [if there is such thing that one can be] ...that or the nice cold can of scotch & cola from the Friends of Werribee hit the spot after nothing short of an exhausting, very bloody hot day out on the WPNEC main arena. Hot as but still what a corker of a day it was! full credit right now to all the committee members - all had a job to do and it was done and what is more surprising that many will not appreciate the working team behind this massive event is relatively small, how they get it to work is that each person has there job and they do it well, they pulled off nothing short of a miracle with this 4 day show that leaves most royals with a band of workers far superior in size looking pretty well behind the eighth ball... results were handed in to out truck straight after the events! every single person worked in to get everything you see before you up and out there.

This was my first year of competing and while feeling a little over whelmed having two ferals to care for as well as compete, helpers come from within the barn, much thanks to Megan for plaiting and Lauren who painted feet, Deb Cheesman for helping me get on and out there on the Friday, Amy Cleland that rode one feral in his event, it turned out hard work but was such fun, that yes our group in the barn was happily discussing next year *faint... and drum roll the biggest buzz was when the stunning 'red mare' owned by Tania Hay from Tas returned with the runner up hack sash!

Today was the day of the Barastoc champions.... and I'm not going to go near the temperature again cause as I type this it is now bucketing down here at WPNEC, the small pony section was tough but it came down to our sweet little SILKWOOD ANGEL WINGS owned by B and D McMahon & M & S McCormick ridden by Grace Hill as runner up and quite a stunner with  LANGTREE EVENING STAR owned by Jan Langley ridden by Suanne Vale as the Champion Barastoc Small Pony of the Year.

Champion Barastoc Galloway of the Year was won by WILLOWCROFT CHANCE ENCOUNTER owned by Bree Petrie, what a super run the Willowcroft Stud is having with their stock in the saddle sections across Australia, Margot Maitland had a vision for what she desired in a saddle horse or pony and checking results of the Willowcroft bred stock with up to Crane Trophy winners, Margot has not missed the mark.  Runner up was one to keep your eye on, this typey galloway ridden by Briony Payne, [who by the way must be the fittest show rider out there, with all the horses and ponies she rides] was SANLIRRA JUST GLITTER owned by M Chamberlain. Briony has always had the knack of showing what ever she rides off to the best advantage and her work today was impressive.

Champion Barastoc Large Pony of the Year and it was for the second year MIRINDA TOUCH OF MINK owned by Lillian McEvoy ridden by Briony Payne taking the sash, after all was said and done this delightful chestnut left no doubt as he entered the arena for his workout that was the pony to beat, his workout was delightful to watch. Runner-up was Graham Elliot's KOLBEACH PROMISE, having a record run for such a young bub she was so petite in her work but just that little bit green at this stage to knock off Mink, bred by the Kolbeach stud of SA I feel over the next 12mths she will only blossom further to be quite a contender in the open field after a rest no doubt through winter as she has nearly won every newcomer event on offer here in Victoria [another one to watch out for].

Champion Barastoc Shetland of the Year was the sweetest little shetland TARA PARK NIGHTCHASER owned by K, N and D Reimer, Sarah Dempsey and ridden by Grace Hill and runner up was PILINTA PARK KIMBA owned by Miss K Woolcock & Miss N Munday and ridden by Kara Woolcock .

Champion Barastoc Horse of the Year, this was like the newcomer hacks... a terrific class and would have to have been the highlight of working horses for the day. The ring side judging was on to it, and there was one that nearly all were 100% sure on and that was the Tasmanian  red mare CONSEQUENCE owned and ridden by Tania Hay, if there every was a Elle' of the horse world this mare is it! tall, elegant, and move! just a bub in the show world with 'show miles' most had her down in the running for sure to be wearing out a sash. When she was called forward as the runner up she duly received the approval of all the crowd. The Champion was another scopey and very bright horse CONCERTO owned and ridden by Sue Thompson, a great win for this very forward, ground covering horse, who like Consequence we are sure to be seeing a lot more off. Well done to both this ladies on their beautiful horses and may they both enjoy many more grand moments within the show ring.
