Only in
Victoria.... after a scorcher yesterday the heavens opened up around
5 am and it was rain, rain and more... after a meeting it was
decided to hold the final day of cone driving, figuring the oval
would be too slippery the course was set out over in the back
paddocks allowing some grip within the softer the ground.
Photography was pushed, as it was on and off with the rain and
previously having witnessed cone driving on a good surface many
opted for safety and precision first, with speed last.
Cone driving takes place after the marathon. This is to test the
fitness and the suppleness of the horses. The course was set in a
restrictive area with up to 20 sets of cones. The horse & vehicle
must pass between the 2 cones in the set without upsetting the ball
that is balanced on top. There is 20cm allowance between in cones
and the wheel width, so precision is required. Penalties are given
for knockdowns, refusals & disobedience. The driver with the clear
round in the fastest time is the winner. |
